Full message from Joe Reilly:

“Delicious autumn; dear and generous earth, we have gathered loving gifts from your abundant well…color, foods, seeds, beauty…We give you humble thanks. Feed now our hungry souls with your winter time of rest that we may grow in love and in your Wisdom!” ~Mary Southard, CSJ, Ministry of the Arts

Happy autumn! How many hikes in the woods have you taken this fall? How many leaves have you noticed on their long swirling journey back to the earth? How many wildflowers have you witnessed as they transform into seed? Sometimes we get so busy in our daily lives that we forget our connection and interconnection to the people and natural worlds around us. Perhaps we spend hours inside an office each day, sitting in front of a computer. Or maybe we live in a city where a connection to nature seems far away. What is it that is lost when we don’t take the time to connect with nature?

The land is always waiting to hold us gently, giving us a safe and solid place to feel our suffering, to heal, and to connect with the joy within and with the wonders of life all around us.

On Saturday November 18th I invite you and your family and friends to slow down, take a long autumn drive in the Michigan countryside, and join my musician friends and I for dinner, conversation, and music at the Leaven Center in Lyons, Michigan. I will show the Planting Gardens documentary video and share about creating this exciting new album at the Leaven Center, and of building community and making music to inspire social change in the process. I will be joined by wonderful musicians and we will sing songs to fill your soul.

The Leaven Center is a retreat center in Lyons, Michigan, midway between Lansing and Grand Rapids. It is also drivable from Detroit, Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo, Chicago, and everywhere in between. The main floor of the Lodge and Guest House are barrier-free. The center is located on 40 beautiful acres of land and the meeting room in the Lodge overlooks the Grand River. Founded on the principle of interconnection between spirituality and social change, the Leaven Center has become an important anchor for me (among many activists) in my busy life within an increasingly busy world.

Its lodge is where I recorded Planting Gardens almost two years ago with the Faith Project and many other friends. The spiritual activism supported by the Leaven Center, as well as the serenity of its land, provided the perfect conditions for that creative project to manifest. Its land has held my Spirit in times of joy and sorrow. Its river has carried my soul through rapids and still waters. Its tall oaks have whispered ancient messages of peace and laughter to me on hikes through the woods. Its friendly staff members have nurtured and encouraged me on my uncertain path as an activist and performing songwriter.

It is a sacred place. I want to share it with you.

If you have already been to Leaven, then you can recall for yourself your own special experiences of the land and the Lodge. If you have never visited, I invite you to take the time to do so. Rooms are available for an overnight stay. Children are welcome. RESERVE YOUR SEAT AS SPACE IS LIMITED!!!

I encourage you to take this opportunity to recharge, consider a personal retreat, re-connect with the land and with your heart. After all, that is where our music comes from-our hearts. When is the last time that you stopped to listen?
